High above Keswick, Skiddaw is the fourth highest peak in Lakeland and at 931 metres (3054 feet) it can be seen from almost all parts of the town. With well marked paths Skiddaw is easily accessible from the centre of Keswick and with its smooth grassy slopes is the oldest mountain in the area.
A walk as opposed to a climb, there are spectacular views from the summit of Skiddaw and seasoned walkers encourage novices to walk the mountain not only from the south and Keswick, but also from the north, enabling them to take in the stunning Dash Falls and Dead Crags. The first steep ascent is the hardest on the legs and climbing Skiddaw aided only by the moonlight is said to be one of the most memorable experiences to be had in all the Lake District.
It is important for visitors to note that mobile phones often don’t work in the valleys.
