Fishing is very popular in the Lakes and there is Trout fishing on Esthwaite Water from the shoreline or loch-style from hired boats. There are numerous fisheries in and around the area, some of which offer refreshments and sell excellent quality tackle.

For keen golfers there is a new all weather golf centre and driving range in Penrith, a nine hole pay-as-you-play course and 300 yard driving range. There is also Kendal Driving Range and Appleby Golf Course.

For horse riding there is Armthwaite Equestrian Centre, who offer country hacking, led treks, a one day pub ride and two and four day trails. The centre is located off the A591 Keswick to Carlisle Road.

For the more adventurous there is Go Ape, Grizedale, which can only be described as ‘a high wire forest adventure’ where visitors embark on a giant obstacle course high up in the trees using ladders, walkways, bridges, tunnels and super strong wire. With some of its best zip wire rides, Grizedale is the jewel in Go Ape’s crown, and a great thrill for adrenalin seekers young and old.

Located a short ferry ride from Bowness, is ‘The Aquarium of the Lakes’, where visitors can discover over thirty displays and learn about the Lakes wildlife and freshwater creatures. With rays and sharks from around the coast, this attraction, with its otter viewing tanks is superb, and with combined steam train/boat ride and aquarium tickets on sale lakeside, it’s simply a must.
